Unveiling Negligence: Tragic Dental Procedure Raises Alarms And Calls For Accountability
Negligence in dental procedures has been on the rise, given the not-so-prompt actions taken by the Supreme Court. A similar case was witnessed in December 2021, when an 81-year-old Derby woman died in the chair of an Oxford Dentist. As a response to this negligence, a wrongful death lawsuit was filed in May this year at the Derby Superior Court.
Swan Lake Dental in Oxford followed allegations of wrongful dental treatment and information ignorance. According to the State of Connecticut Superior Court, the victim went to the dentist for teeth extraction and implants. Given her medical records, information regarding the critical condition of the victim like heart failure, COPD, vital valve prolapse, and health complications under sedation was overlooked. Moreover, no confirmation was obtained from her primary care doctor for clearance of the dental treatment.
As an explanation for this casualty, initially, the oral retractor was removed during the procedure when the team sensed unconsciousness. The victim died soon after the team failed to feel her pulse, while the emergency arrived late.
The negligence by some dental specialists and loss of life reflect the need for close monitoring of patients during surgeries. While the victim's family sought a jury trial, casualties like administering an excessive amount of nitrous oxide during the procedure were also witnessed. Moreover, the lawsuit failed to highlight the damages sought by the victim's family.
In response to the allegations made, the attorney denied any casualties and negligence by the dental hospital and refused to respond to questions by the media. The unfair practices and silence by authorities lay greater emphasis on the need to protect individuals from false dental procedures and carelessness by healthcare professionals. The delay in realizing the victim's concerns, leading to her death has been recognized as alarming. The case has captured the attention of many, addressing the issues and an alarming need to protect and monitor dental procedures, accurately.
