Update: Real-Time BAI Codes Enabled for Commercial EFT Transactions
When a payment is processed in real time, the entire amount is released immediately, instead of following the usual 3–5 business day availability window. This supports timely payment standards, but it does not change your contracted or state-required payment timelines.
Real-time payments: key points
- Applies only to eligible commercial claim payments
- Does not impact contracted or state-mandated payment schedules
What you’ll need for reconciliation
To receive real-time payments:
- You must be enrolled in ACH/EFT, and
- Your bank must support real-time payment posting
How these payments may appear in bank tools:
- BAI 158, 159, and 459: may show in your bank’s extended remittance detail report
- ISO/SWIFT reporting: may be labelled as PMNT, RRCT, DMCT, or TRF
- If you use lockbox services, real-time payments may be shown as BAI 399
If you can’t see extended reference/remittance details, you may need to ask your bank about enabling additional reporting.
Where to find the remittance details
You can access these transactions through:
- EDI 835 files from your clearinghouse
